Giving Back
College students have plenty to balance: classes, homework, part-time jobs,
friends…and the list goes on. But for two Maple Grove High School (MGHS) grads,
A diverse group of women are making things happen in Maple Grove. These
women, from varied economic, educational and professional backgrounds, and
representing many stages of life, dedicate their time and talents to making
Maple Grove resident Colleen Hazen is the oldest of seven children and she never played organized sports. So Hazen had an epiphany when her own two children, Andy and Katie, began playing competitive tennis several years ago at Maple Grove Junior High School.
A scruffy puppy named Freddie, with floppy ears and wistful eyes, once lived in an Arkansas shelter. His fur, the color of Caribbean beach sand, was badly matted and balding in spots around his snout and belly. Freddie waited to be claimed. But he had no owner.
Did you ice skate, play hockey or as a true Minnesotan just love being on the ice? A volunteer opportunity at the Maple Grove Community Center’s indoor skating rink is waiting for you. The ice rink is in search of adults over the age of 20 to supervise open skating on weekends.
When Maple Grove resident Larry Hotchkiss was in his early twenties he got his first Rottweiler, a dog he says was a wonderful companion for eleven years. But his wife Amy needed convincing when it came time for the Hotchkisses to get a dog together. He wanted another Rottweiler.
Military members from Maple Grove and surrounding communities have served and continue to serve our country with bravery and dedication. Their commitment is matched by a local volunteer effort to comfort and support hometown military families.
