Years of training. Hours of practice. Physical strength, stamina and an ability to demonstrate excellent technique. This is some of what it takes to be an elite athlete. It’s also what it takes to be one of the four captains of the Maple Grove High School Varsity Dance Team.

Despite what it sounds like, it is not an acrobatics course. The “flipped” classroom refers to a new model of teaching in which students watch the lecture portion of the syllabus on video at home and do the homework in the classroom with the help of the teacher.

 

Lions Club president Ken Kumpula and chief of police David Jess go all the way back to Park Center High School, where they were classmates. They continue to work together to better the community of Maple Grove to this day.

 

Maple Grove area students reached impressive athletic goals this year. The Maple Grove girls’ swim and dive team won the section 8AA championship for the sixth consecutive year.

 

Zanewood Community School principal Carol Rowan is teaching her students that you’re never too old to learn. At age 62, Rowan has started to learn the clarinet with other band students at the school.
