We, as Americans, have a lot to celebrate and July is unquestionably one of the best times to do just that. We are a people who enjoy our rugged individualism, our right to pursue happiness, and a culinary culture that has brought the world a host of innovations.

 

Peruse glittering pieces of jewelry, scan the luxurious colors of paintings and glassware, create art yourself for free and meet real artists.

 

The Nobel Prize has nothing on the best elements of Maple Grove. Whether it be gas, liquid or solid, residents know what they like and they make their voices heard each year in our reader’s survey. These are places, things and people that have proven their true metal.

 

We all shop in Maple Grove, but what is it like on the other side of the counter? We talked with three Maple Grove business owners who, as it turns out, hold similar views on what it means to be entrepreneurial and to serve our community. 

 

Retired biologist Ron Refsnider introduces wide-eyed onlookers to the wonder of songbirds. He does this through educational bird banding demonstrations at Eastman Nature Center. Banding involves the safe capture of birds for identification, assessment and tracking.

 

Jim Deane remembers it clearly; he made it two blocks in the Pierre Bottineau Parade before an avalanche of rain came down.

School might be out for the summer, but Birch Grove Elementary School for the Arts and Weaver Lake Elementary: A Science, Math and Technology School have much to celebrate. Birch Grove and Weaver Lake both received honors in May for their excellence in diverse and engaging instruction.

 

Meet Landon Robert Wold. He was born May 7, 2013, at 6:59 p.m. and will forever be known as “baby 10,000” at Maple Grove Hospital. He is welcomed by parents Jessica and Nate Wold, who were surprised to find that they were part of this landmark birth.
