Holidays are a great time for gathering with friends and family. Thanksgiving was the prime moment for Brianna Fortin to spend some quality time with her niece, Greta. “That face,” Fortin says. “When I see her, the camera automatically comes out. The closer the shot, the better.”

Admit it: You know the preamble of the United States Constitution solely because of a Saturday-morning cartoon series that set the words of this high-minded document to a clever song.

Minnesotans value education. It seems particularly important in this tight labor market for students to succeed in the classroom and be well prepared for college and career.

Karl Jaeger, 37, of Maple Grove recalls always being fascinated with fine arts. As a child Jaeger would sketch his favorite athletes. Drawings that, he says, weren’t bad for someone his age.

Osseo’s April Tatur was helping design a showroom for her husband’s company, Advanced Home Improvement, when she found her niche for switch-plate design. In 2004 she started Turn It On Designs, a web-based business that creates handmade, one-of-a-kind switch plates for any room in your house.

Steve Laux, 35, of Maple Grove lives as a quadriplegic with a C5, C6 level spinal cord injury from a 1998 diving accident that occurred at Lake Superior. Despite his limitations in using a wheelchair, this dad of three has made a big impact on the community.

Months of winter weather is no deterrent for active families who get their game on indoors. Creek Hill Custom Homes builds residential houses with uniquely designed features like bonus rooms and four-season porches.

The city of Maple Grove works. Chances are you can’t recall the last time—if ever— you have been snowed in or your mail wasn’t delivered. The men and women who plow our streets and bring our post are committed to excellent service and they get it done without fuss.

This month the Maple Grove Lions Club celebrates its 50th anniversary and we are all better for their long-time presence in the neighborhood.
